Mural Title:
Peace Dawns Today Mural
Date of Completion:
April 2024
Mural Location:
Amish Originals, 38 N State St, Westerville, OH 43081
Project description:
This project was produced in partnership with the Rotary Club of Westerville and Amish Originals. The imagery represented in this mural was developed in partnership with the Rotary Club to represent the club’s mission of peace within the community. The central figure of the mural is a dove. Surrounding the dove are patterns taken from different trees and flowers found throughout Westerville. The circle and bottom half features an abstraction interpretation of the bark of a sycamore tree. The largest tree in Westerville is a 250+ year old sycamore Heritage Tree.
The circle in the center is a nod to the peacemaking circles from the restorative justice practices taught at Westerville City Schools. The detail where the colors in the circle alternate across the horizon line represents the different cultures of Westerville coming together and sharing. The resemblance to a sunrise represents the future of Westerville where this will continue to happen. The leaf pattern on the sides is taken from the Amur Maakia trees found on State Street in Uptown. And the subtle floral pattern in the “sky” is taken from the petunias that fill the hanging baskets in Uptown.
This project was a collaborative effort integrating the vision of the Rotary Club and Adam’s artistic eye.
